DNC - Day 3,4 & 5 (I'm totally exhausted!)

Wowza - what a week! The Democratic National Convention is now completed - what an amazing convention, filled with so many amazing people. The "Faces of 2008" project is now completed. Photographer John Beebe has posted up most of the photos on his site: www.facesof2008.com It was such a fantasticly crazy and fun week. You can take a look at our mobile photo studio in the youtube video HERE. In addition to the people in the photos below - I also did makeup for: Christine Pelosi (daughter of Nancy Pelosi and the author of Campaign Boot Camp), Moby (musician, and just plain awesome guy), and Hill Harper (a close friend of Barack Obama and Actor on popular TV show CSI).

Austin Goolsbee (Barack's chief economic advisor). Here's a quote from an article that pretty much sums it up about Goolsbee:

"In short, Goolsbee may be a centrist. But rich people don’t impress him. And their academic hired guns don’t impress him either. FDR and his economic advisers shared that same sort of skepticism about grand fortune. They also had something else: grand popular movements, out in the streets, demanding real progressive change.

Those movements turned skeptics about grand fortune into crusaders against it. That could happen again. In Austan Goolsbee, we’ll have a skeptic whispering in a President Obama’s ear. Now we just need a loud enough progressive movement."

David Fenton is the owner, CEO and founder of Fenton Communications. Created in 1982 to promote issue-oriented public relations campaigns focusing on the environment, public health and human rights. For more than 25 years, he pioneered the use of professional P.R. and advertising techniques by nonprofit public interest groups in the United States and around the world. He is co-founder of three independent nonprofit organizations. Fenton was formerly director of Public Relations at Rolling Stone magazine. David Fenton was also a co-producer of the famous “No Nukes” concerts in New York City, 1979.

John Sweeney is the president of the AFL-CIO. An AFL-CIO vice president since 1980, he was elected president of the AFL-CIO at the federation's biennial convention in October 1995 and was most recently re-elected in 2005.

Bettylu Saltzman one of Obama's first major supporters and donors. "She is a major Peace Now devotee, officer of the far-left".

Craig Newmark - founder of www.craigslist.com

Fran Drescher - Actress, Comedian, and cancer survivor. She is FABULOUS!

James Phillip Hoffa AKA "Jimmy Hoffa Jr." is the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He is the only son of the infamous Jimmy Hoffa, who was also a president of the Teamsters (among other achievements).

The week came to completion when a lovely client of mine gave me two tickets to Barack Obama's acceptance speech. I was unable to go - but the pure joy on my husband's face when I told him made EVERYTHING worthwhile! Go OBAMA!!

Day 2 of the DNC.

I have been privileged enough to become involved with an important political project at the Democratic National Convention. The project is called "Faces of 2008", and is sponsored by the DNC. The plan is to have portraits taken of 125 politicians, delegates and celebrities to represent the wide breath of people involved in this momentous occasion!

John Beebe is a Toronto based photographer, with a gift for capturing the true essence of each person. He finds beauty in what some of us might call flaws. Not a single photo will be retouched. It has been a thrill to meet so many passionate people ready and willing to support Barack Obama.

I have worked with some amazing people already: Austin Goolsbee (Barack's chief economic advisor), John Sweeney (president of the AFL-CIO), Craig Newmark (founder of craigslist.com), Eli Pariser (Executive Director of MoveOn.org), and Actress Jurnee Smollett (Cosby Show, Full House, The Great Debaters).

Here are some snapshots from the past two days at the convention:

#8 - Bogdan / Desiree shoot.

Here's the first edited shot from my last shoot with the infamous Mr. Bogdan. He's quite a character, a Russian "pixel assassin" if you ask me! I always have fun on shoots with him, he brings out my sarcastic side for sure!

You can check out more of his work here: http://www.modelmayhem.com/bogdan

#7 - What a day.

Wow. I am exhausted. Completely.

I got up at 5:30am to drive up to Westcliffe, Colorado. A total of 2.5 hours in torrential rain. Did hair and makeup for 5 people and then it was straight off to my next job - for TEEN VOGUE! Yes, they were having a grand opening party at a store in Park Meadows and I was part of the "entertainment" provided. A few hours doing makeup on 12-15 year olds is an exhausting day in itself!! Especially when you've just driven 5 hours on 4 hours of sleep.

The was one highlight to my drive?? The world's biggest rocking chair, and a cow. Welcome to rural Colorado.

I came home to a nice suprise in my inbox. Here are some of the finals from the shoot with Sam Trojanovich (www.trojanphoto.com).

Aren't they AWESOME?!?!! Steffie looks so beautiful (as always).
